Nerf Blaster Modification: “Trinity”

Overview

Completed Fall 2018

This blaster is a complete overhaul and paintjob of a Nerf Rapidstrike blaster. Performance modifications include all new electronics to provide a higher rate of fire and an increased dart velocity. The paint job is Rust-oleum white and gray, with Tamiya candy apple green details

Internal Modifications

All stock performance components were completely replaced. First to go was the factory flywheel cage and motors. The plastic cage was replaced with an aluminum riot cage from Hooligan Blaster co. The flywheel motors were replaced by MTB Neo Hellcats. These are larger and more powerful than the stock NERF motors, which allow the blaster to launch darts with a larger and more consistent velocity. The entire cage is wired to a deans connector to allow for the entire flywheel cage to be swapped out is a different configuration is desired  The pusher motor was also upgraded with an MTB Rhino to increase the rate of fire to roughly 10 darts per second. The upgraded motors draw much more current, so for electronic safety the stock microswitches were upgraded and a MOSFET is included to prevent the circuit from burning up if the motors stall. The blaster is powered by a 3s LiPo battery housed in the front grip, with a voltage alarm and voltmeter integrated into the blaster to ensure the battery is not overdrawn. The voltmeter is activated by sliding open the jam door on top of the blaster.

The blaster also features clear resin cast accent parts that were purchased from Black Steel Props. The resin parts are illuminated with custom wired green LEDs, powered from a 9v battery in the stock of the blaster. The lights are turned on and off by a small toggle switch also in the stock.
